Will my income be taxed in the US if I work a foreign independent contractor?

I live in Singapore and a US firm wants me to do some programming work. All communication is done over the Internet and I will not have to set foot on the US. Will the wages they pay me be subject to withholding tax?

If you are a US citizen, you will be taxed on all your worldwide income, regardless of where it is earned. As an independent contractor, no taxes will be withheld, so be sure to set aside some for tax time (or make estimnated payments). Keep all your records (receipts) that pertain to your contracting as they will be deductible. You will receive a 1099-MISC from the firm which needs to be reported on your schedule C of the 1040. Even if you were a us citizen, a Singapore resident pays Singoprore taxes. All money is taxed upon entry to the US if you move here.
If you neither a U.S. citizen nor a U.S. green card holder, then you will not be subject to U.S. income tax since the services will not be performed in the U.S.
