Will my income be taxed if i work for a contactor in iraq? |
what % of income is not taxed Assuming you are a US citizen or resident, your entire income earned abroad will need to be reported to the IRS and subject to US income tax. However, depending on how long you stay in Iraq (minimum 330 days) and your tax home (your tax home is your regular or principal place of business, employment or post of duty), you may be entitled to a foreign income exclusion of up to $82,400 (2006) of foreign income not subject to US tax. Moreover, for any amount over the $82,400 limit and if you actually paid some foreign income tax on those income, you will also get a foreign tax credit. The rules are quite complicated. It is better to find a qualified accountant to handle your case. |
