Why are we led to believe that taxing our income is legal when it is clearly not?

About sixty percent of an average income goes for taxes when you add up sales tax, income tax, property tax, car tags, gas tax, cigarette tax, liquor tax, and state taxes. Not only that now they charge sales tax on pretax-ed items such as cigarettes, and liquor.

Have you read the constitution? Amendment XVI says that

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration"

So clearly, whether you like it or not, it is perfectly legal to tax incomes.

a lot of people that agree with you are in jail for tax evasion!
with that said, until WWI the USA collected all the tax monies they need from Import/export taxes, tobacco and other "sin" taxes.
what we need is less government, less welfare payments, less hand outs to other nations!
