If someone has $0 in income (unemployed, no benefits) do they need to file taxes if over age 18?

Someone told me you still need to file and say you made $0 . Is that true?

If you did not earn any income in 2006, then you don't have to file a return.
Only if you are getting something back thru earned income credit.
Nope, but it is probably time for you to get a job. :-)
I am almost positive that if you have no income you don't have to file an income tax return. Also, I think there is a minimum income you need to make in order to file...over $600.
no. if you make less than 5,000 dollars in ayear and are over the age of 18 you do not need to file.

Now if you are collecting unemployment, or trying to get EIC then you do need to file.

I would use one of the free online tax forms and see what it says.

go to www.irs.gov and then do a search for free taxes. they will send you to an several online places. I would use handrblock and have your taxes done for free. It may be possible that you got something called the EIC (earned income credit coming back to you)
It only takes a few minutes to do that can save you hours of aggravation down the road. I recommend doing them just to have them on file.
no
and earned income is contingent upon qualfying factors. How can you provide support if you earn no income?
