What is the income you have to be below in order not to file taxes?

my mom gets her social security check plus 2 others. her and my dad never had to file income taxes cause their income was too low. i just need to reck hers and make sure she doesnt need to file income tax. my dad died last year.

A married couple can have income up to $16,900 not counting social security before they have to file. If one or both is 65 or over, it's a little higher.

If your dad died in 2006, your mom with still file a joint return for that year, and it will be marked "final return" for your dad.

If he died before 2006, then your mom could have income up to $8450 without having to file - again, not counting social security, and a little higher limit if she's 65 or over.

The above is for federal. Your state might have different rules, it depends on the state.
Check out the IRS website. That should have all the answers you need for your tax questions.

4,000 thousand or lower
you must file if you owe taxes. you have to figure out taxes first to see. after doing that you may as well file anyway just to keep a record. You may get a refund. you should file at least every three years even if you do not owe taxes.
BUT if self-employed you must file if you made over $600 gross income.
Here is the list of people who are not required to file taxes...
