How can 50% of the country be upset with the federal government about income taxes? |
If you look at the data, the bottom 50% of American taxpayers only pay 3% of the federal income taxes. I'm pretty sure that is almost no money per person. I'm actually positive that a large portion of those people actually get more money in refunds than were taken out of their paychecks (i.e. they get paid by the government). Now, I guess if you include the Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security contributions (not taxes) then they pay a bit more, but no one every talks about reducing those contributions. Do you even know what percentage you pay in taxes? I do. Do you even know if you are in the top 10, 25, or 50% of income earners in the country? Most people don't think they are rich, but if we assume that the last tax cut only benefitted the "rich" or benefitted the "rich" the most, then there are only two classes--and I definitely don't consider myself to be poor. Tax cuts always will benefit the rich but that's because they are the ones who pay the majority of taxes. Billy Six Pack wants to believe otherwise but it's true. It's the rich who keep our economy going, we all have a role to play, but they are the catalyst that we can't do without if we want to have broad success in the economy. I am upset because I am in the wrong 50%. I am ni the group that pays, and pays a lot. That's why we have a Middle Class to pay the taxes the poor CAN'T pay and the taxes the rich WON'T pay. Without them, the whole thing would collapse. |
