My state has no sales tax (VAT) and no income tax. Is this attractive to you? What's it like in your state? Oregon also fits this description. Although, they also pay higher property taxes. I live in California, however. My taxes go to many services and public works and infrastructure, services, and maintenance of our wonderful public spaces and environment. It keeps me content. What I'm most upset about is my tax money going to subsidize OTHER states, most of them "red" states at that. For every dollar that goes to the fed from CA taxes, less than 80 cents comes back here. I just hope all you other states with low tax rates know that you are really subsidized by innovative and booming states like mine, which by golly, tax their citizens a lot more. Most red states would be VERY different places if it weren't for the subsidizing of them by wealthier blue states. This is the State of Confusion you live in right? No income tax? Schools and services must be non-existant. Actually, that explains... Additional: Well, if you aren't paying via income tax and sales tax you must be paying in other ways. we have no income tax so.. we enjoy that alot... What state are you in? My state has income tax + sales tax + an extra 1% income tax to pay for schools + property tax. Which state has no sales tax? I find that hard to believe. My state has no sales or income tax either. New Hampshire has never had one, though that doesn't mean we don't have some taxes ( we have a Rooms and Meals Tax aimed at tourists), and our property taxes (over 1/2 goes to schools) are through the roof! It can also cost you a $1,000 to register a vehicle! A VAT (value added tax) is different from a sales tax. Sales taxes are calculated at the point of sale, added to the price of an item, and printed on the sales slip of receipt. A VAT can be any one of a number of taxes that are applied to a product before the point of sale, and the retail price can include several VATs that accumulate in the chain from the production of raw materials, through the manufacturing process, and along the wholesale path. These taxes are hidden from the consumer. Don't confuse sales taxes with VATs. |
