If legalizing drugs and taxing the crap out of them saved us from raising taxes, or did away with income tax? |
Would you support it? And not just marijuana...ALL drugs. Feel free to cite stats from countries were drugs are legal... After more than thirty years with the declared "War on Drugs" I think it is painfully honest that it is not working. Prohibition has never been the answer to any of the ills of society. If there is a demand there will be a supply, legal or not. I don't do drugs personally and I certainly do not advocate their use, but I also do not believe that the "War on Drugs" is about stopping the flow, or freeing addicts from the their terrible grip. Instead I believe it is directly related to money spent in this area by everyone from local municipalities to the federal government. This is the same reason why it will never end. blueridgeliving: You need to get out more. There are plenty conservatives in the country who hold and live by traditional conservative values. Not all conservatives are republicans and many recognize that the current administration is anything but conservative in it's actions. Lastly, it took more than just die-hard republicans to elect George Bush twice and you might be surprised to learn that many people who voted for this man cannot wait for his tenure to end. I assume by your words that you consider yourself enlightened. If so try to stepping out of the all conservatives are bad mindset and actually seeing the wider world around you. What you learn might surprise you. No. Why would you want to legalize drugs? Drugs kill people. Drugs ruin people's lives. As far as I am concerned drugs should always be illegal. I agree. It would put an end to the black market activities and thus reduce crime. Beyond that, half these people on this site are in favor of lassiez fair capitalism. Isn't selling drugs capitalism? Aren't these people successfully selling and marketing drugs?? WOWIE. Please, please, PRETTY PLEASE provide evidence for your statement that "conservatives DO believe in decriminalizing drugs." Because that's just a flat-out incorrect statement. They want to put drug users under the jailhouse, for God's sake! Are you not aware that there are more MARIJUANA USERS IN JAIL THAN THERE ARE MURDERERS? ******************************... Heidi: Sorry, doll. I don't buy into the "Conservatives vs. Republicans" argument. I've never met a conservative in my life. Hey, guess what? I had a pal email me a listing of "Conservative Beliefs" and you'll NEVER believe this, but it was all pretty much common sense stuff? I mean, who WOULDN'T believe in the stuff they SAY they believe in? People SAYING something and people DOING something are two different things. Republicans have allowed the bush nightmare to occur, I hold them ALL accountable. They COULD have done something. And the whole concept of "Libertarian" is a joke, sorry. People can't just "do whatever they want to" when there are SEVEN frikking billion people on the planet. So VERY sorry, but yes, we have to have RULES. *sigh* Drugs should remain illegal because there's no way ensure that a drug user can't harm those around him. Also, drug use causes police enforcement costs to go up and medical costs too. Drug use also damages the individual. Of course, by these measures alcohol should be illegal too. However, we have a long history with alcohol so it served a cultural purposes that other drugs don't. Legalizing drugs beyond marijuana is way more problematic than our deficit. No. If you think abuse of drugs by children and drug deaths are high now legalize the stuff and watch them increase by 1000%. The only reason that prohibition was such a disaster was because alcohol had been a regular part of life drugs are not and are much more dangerous. |
