Would you be willing to give up income tax refunds for healthcare and education?

By give up, I mean give up the headache that goes along with having to file income tax every year. Having to pay someone to file your taxes because our government has made the laws regarding filing so complex and convoluted that no one, not even the IRS agents hired to enforce them, can understand them? By changing the way income tax works...the agency paying the wage sends the taxes automatically to the Dept of Treasury...and removing the responsibility of keeping track of your own taxes, we could pare down the IRS by about $8 billion a year, which could then be put into a system of healthcare and education that wouldn't cost the citizens of this country an arm and a leg to use. No cost to you for healthcare, unless you wanted insurance to cover non-medical practices (ie plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery). No cost to you for educational tuition or room/board (if you were living on campus)...all you have to cover is your lab fees, parking, etc.
Would you be willing to do that?

John - what doesn't work is a health system that leaves 44 million people uninsured.
What doesn't work is a health system that sees Americans spend more per capita than any other country in the world on healthcare yet recieve only the 37th best healthcare system in the world.
What doesn't work is child having a better chance of living to the age of 5 in Cuba than in the US.
Universal healthcare does work. It works in every developed country in the world and results in significantly cheaper and better healthcare being available to thier populations.
Keep kidding yourself if you want - but the evidence is clear - our health system is overpriced and underperforming and neglects a significant proportion of our population. In short it is a disgrace and an embarrassment. Source(s): www.who.org
No, socialism doens't work
no i would not want to give up my income tax. the government can't run things right now. can you imagine them in charge of healthcare and education ? it would be a nightmare. they just aren't capable and in some cases abuse the money. i would rather make my own money / invest it and know that I can count on myself and not have to trust them.
Alright.. if you double that you might be able to pay for the administrative side of a federal health care system.
8 billion a year ?

America spends over 600 billion dollars a year on education right now ( federal, state and local )

8 billion wouldn't make a difference.

Same for health care,

The Federal Government spends over 580 billion a year on health care already.

Another 2 trillion or so, is spent by companies or individuals.

Again, 8 billion wouldn't make a difference.
If it was going to work, then yes. Without having a clear roadmap to a successful program its hard to sign away any money.

And a plan like this would not be socialism. Unless we are already living in a socialist system, which we are not. The government takes a portion of your money to pay for stuff. Thats how the country works. I don't see how using said funds to pay for education (which we allready do) and healthcare is any more socialistic that taking that money and using it to buy bombs.

If it were socialism, they would take ALL of your money, and give you ALL of your goods and services.
