Can I find out through the I.R.S. if my aunt paid taxes on my deceased uncle's inheritance? |
It has been 3 years since he died and she still hasn't distributred the money. This is her brother and my uncle. Have you tried asking your aunt? Unless you are the executor for your uncle's estate the irs will not discuss it at all with you. I would think after 3 years that she would have had to pay the estate taxes, if any, on the estate. But depending on your uncle's will (if there was one), the monies from his estate could have been placed into trust, or given to charity, or he could have left the whole thing to his wife (your aunt). Is there any reason as to why you think you were going to get some inheritance from your uncle? No. The IRS will not discuss any taxpayer's returns with anyone but the taxpayer. Your aunt isn't responsible for payment of any taxes. The estate is, through the executor. Unless you're the executor, they won't discuss it with you. Whether or not you'd be entitled to any of his estate will depend upon his will. If he died intestate, you probably are not entitled to anything anyway. Probate is a matter of public record. You can follow through on that through your local family court. |
