What type of insurance claim? |
I came over a hill today, and hit a downed tree limb. No visible damage to the car, but underneath, some of the fender well got ripped off, and an air damn (way underneath, not body colored) ripped off. What type of claim will this be? Will my Insurance go up? Is this an act of God type thing? THis will be a collision claim. And you will be at fault. What if it was a child in the middle of the road? That tree was there for you to see and you didnt. sorry. You would have to talk to your insurance agent to find out. Different companies cover different things, and as an act of God, did it just fall or was it where somebody cut it down? If it was on a roadway with no houses there it could be classified as negligence on the highway dept. Talk to your agent. Damage to the car as described should come under your Comprehensive/Collision coverage. Damage to the tree limb would be covered under your Property Damage/Liability coverage. Here in the U.S. this is a collision claim. The limb was down, you drove, (collided) into/over it. Claims guy - 22 years and counting Just to clarify, "act of God" does not exist in insurance anymore. All that matters is if it is covered or not and which portion of your coverage applies. In this case it will be covered under your collision coverage and will be considered "at fault". Most companies will increase your rate because of this. If at all possible you should get an estimate on the repairs and decide if it would be better to fix your car out of pocket. You will have to pay your deductible either way so if it is just a few hundred more $$ for the repairs you should probably keep the insurance company out of it since it will save you a good bit of money on future insurance premiums.
