Do insurance companies usually pay for ELECTIVE C-sections? |
My doctor is fine with it. But I am wondering if the insurance company will pay for it? I have great insurance coverage, PPO. Please don't preach about having vaginal delivery...I have done my research and know what I want. If you don't want to answer my specific question above, just don't post anything at all. Thanks! :) My wife wanted a c-section from day one and never even contumplated a natural birth. Don't listen to the people who say you are crazy, my wife actaully had her stiches out in a few days, she did have some stomach issues such as constipation but that is expected with abdominal surgery. Within a few weeks she was running all over the place like nothing ever happened. My mother in law is a doctor and she is very friendly with an OB-GYN, and believe it or not the difference in cost of the actual delivery of a natural birth versus a C-Section is literally pennies. The only difference is the hospital stay, with a C-Section you are usally in for four nights. This decision is the beginning of your many parenting decisions. Many people are going to try to tell you how to raise your child. Only you know what is best for you and your family. usually the doctor has to make up a medical reason why you need it for the insurance company to approve. no they wont. call your insurance company and ask them. most companies only cover medically nessecary ones and you not wanting to do a vaginal birth isnt good enough why on earth would you want to put your body through a surgery you dont need thats stupid if you think your avoiding pain i have a news flash for you. you arent c- sections hurt worse than a vaginal and take a lot longer to heal. dont put yourself through an unneeded surgery thats stupid and dangerous mine did. i had to have one though, it was my 1st pregnancy and it was scheduled... so im not sure if that is considered elective or medically necessary, however my ins paid for it 100% and i would do it again in a heart beat.... I guess it depends on the company but I highly doubt that most companies will. They don't like to pay for anything that isn't medically necessary anymore. |
