Why can't everyone get group Health Insurance? |
For those of you with health insurance have you ever looked at you explanation of benefits? Have you noticed that insurance companies only pay about 40% of the bill you would have to pay without the insurance? Is that right? Why can't an uninsured person pay the same rate as an insurance company? Especially if they pay up front. Why can't "American citizen" be an eligible group and pay group rates? Any ideas? When my son needed an MRI and the insurance company was taking too long to get the authorization I looked into paying for it myself. If I remember the cost was going to be about $1,400. The insurance company got the approval the next day and paid for it. Their cost for the exact same procedure at the same facility was around $600. I looked into why it would have been so much more expensive for me to pay for it cash and what I found out is that the insurance companies have contracts with doctors and hospitals and have set prices that they will pay. The cash paying customer has no leverage and in essence is picking up the tab for the insurance company savings. Many people with no health coverage can get reduced rates if they even have to pay at all. Income guidlines are followed by every hospital. All you have to do is ask. because than the doctors can't pay their education bills This another example of the problems with Capitalism and it's influence over the poor and disadvantaged. The system leaves out many people that have paid for care for years and are to ill to work for a time. The people that have just a few moths between coverage. People in that situation could lose all they own to the hospitals. What I think is odd is if you take good care of yourself and do not need hospitals and doctors the health care industries still raise rates. It is all about profit not about insurance. |
