What is an agent market? and an agent territory?...in insurance? It depends. Some insurance companies have territories for their agents. An independent agent can pretty much sell insurance in any state he's licensed in. A market can be a natural market or a target market. Let's say you only want to sell to people over 60. That's a target market. Or you only want to deal with people in your age bracket and your circle of friends. That's a natural market. A market can also be based on products, such as just life insurance, or just auto insurance. A territory is generally an assigned area that you work for your company and no one else within your company works that area. An agent that writes insurance for just one company.. like Farmers, or State Farm.. will be assigned a territory by the regional office.. so you cover your territory and I'll cover mine.... on occasion there are times when you might be writing the guys business in your territory and he lives in my territory.. they you and I work it out.. because later I might have the same deal come up. |
