What is the best global/international medical insurance?

Hi. What is the most comprehensive individual-policy medical insurance that includes prescription drug coverage? I want to teach English in China someday and it depresses me that I won't be able to retain my job's medical insurance for USA coverage. I'd have to purchase my own. I'm afraid that I might get a plan that won't cover important things if I get sick. Posting this under China as I know there are lots of expatriats on this part of Y/A....

Jebbie - yes you should not come to China without US coverage, or at least some type of international coverage that will cover you in the STATES, you must make sure 100% that the insurance will cover you not only in China but the States as well, another thing is that you must make sure you are covered for medical evac., to be lifted out of Asia for medical reason will cost an individual $100,000 at least, I am currently on Blue Cross Blue Shield but it is very expensive, but if I have to return to the States for medical reason I am covered, forget what the schools offer unless it is an international school who can give you a great package, if you are going to work for a Chinese public school you should get additional coverage to what the school offers, try these out Source(s): HealthCareInternational.com

You need to purchase "China Medical Card". In China's hopistals, you must pay a deposit before you get any medical treatment even you are in danger. There are many insurance companies provide "China Medical Card" such as Zurich, ACE, Blue Cross & AIU.

Yes, when I moved to China, my medical coverage thru my company was also lost. However, I was able to find western standard coverage thru Zurich. You can also get really good coverage thry Metlife. You can select a program that covers you when you travel back to the States but eventually when you return to the States, you might as well get a new coverage.

My new employer in China pays for my medical insurance & I recommend you work with them to get them to pay for it.
