What to do when you need to see a psychologist or counseler and you have no medical insurance? |
I am severely depressed and have been for months. I live in Tennessee where there is absolutely no help available for the uninsured. Tennessee used to have a free heath plan available to those who otherwise could not afford help. I am practically bed ridden at this time from not having the energy or will to even move. I've never been this depressed and don't know what to do. No one in my family (whom I'm staying with) has the money to help me. I am presently unemployed and have no money at all. My back and neck hurt so much now from laying in bed all day and night that it's hard for me to get around. Where can I turn now? Can anyone help me out here with what to do under these circumstances? I feel broken and forgotten. Depression can be cured easily with medication. Find a family practice and call them. Tell them your situation and that you desperately need help for depression and are having trouble financially. They can work with you or refer you to someone else who can help you work out a payment plan. Do not be afraid to ask for help. I went into a deep depression after losing 4 members of my family all within a short period of time, then I lost my job I had for 10 years. Talk about DEPRESSED! I hit rock bottom. I let depression take over me for about 4 months then I said enough and went to the doctor. Medication helped tremendously and I was able to pull myself back up and get a new lease on life. You are not alone and you are not forgotten. Just reach out and ask for help ok? Have you tried a regular doctor with what is called a sliding fee scale, based on income. Since you are unemployed that would be the way to go. Here we have Pathways and Comprehend. But regular doctors will base your issue of payment on a sliding fee scale. I would call your local social services, anonymously to ask them where to go. They can help you find someone. Good luck. Of course you can get help. Go to your county's department of social services. Obviously, you qualify. Don't say "I can't!" Because that is BS. Get your butt out of bed and get some help. Pretty soon your family is even going to tire of you pulling this lying in bed all day and feeling sorry for yourself. Get off the cross.....we need the wood. Get on the computer and look on the internet for your county's social services department. They will help you get the care that you need that you can not afford. That's what social services does, they don't want you to go without care. You won't be staying at a resort spa and getting massages, but you will have someone who will listen to you and help you to make the changes you need to make to feel better and be independent. I've told you what to do, now it's up to you to make it happen! The brain produces a chemical called phenethylemine when people are in love, sex, etc. When depressed this natural occurrence is blocked. Chocolate has not only phenthylemine, but also a natural source of caffeine ( part of the xanthine group) and several other drugs that act as vasoconstrictors. These elevate blood pressure, diuretic and act as bronchodilators and can possibly be attributed to serotonin uptake. So yes, chocolate can make you feel better when depressed but as with most drugs after the breakdown (crash) you sometimes feel worse. Yahoo daily updates Colleges and universities offer counselling at a flat fee of $5 per session. Some will offer counselling for free, depending on your income. Check into local schools in your area. They're professors at the colleges or universities, so they're well-educated, well-experienced, and well-taught. Most of them decide to do work at college and universities in order to get the benefits that they wouldn't otherwise if they were working freelance. P.S. Don't go the county route. You often get interns or newbies. Your mental health deserves better! Plus it goes on a county file! You don't want that, do you? |
