My brother needs medical attention but doesn't have health insurance? |
My brother has recently been having chest pains for three days now. The problem is that he isn't covered by medical insurance although he is allowed to be under my fathers insurance except for hes out of town and unable to reach. Anything I can do to get him medical attention and attempt to get medical insurance? Could he use his girlfriends? Any suggestions? If he's under his father's insurance then he needs to have a copy of the insurance card in case of emergencies as this. Next, if he's having chest pain take him to the local ER; under law they cannot refuse treatment. The insurance thing can be resolved when his father returns. He cannot use his girlfriends insurance; he's not covered under her policy since they are not married and he has coverage under his father's policy. Is he a minor? If he is covered under your father's insurance than you don't need to reach your father, he is just covered. Are you saying that your father can cobra him on his insurance? That will take time and it seems like he needs medical attention soon. Just take him to the doctor and worry about the money later. The hospitals are supposed to treat you whether you have insurance or not. Take him to the hospital. Also, they may forgive the bill if you can't pay. We need more info. How old is he? How bad are the chest pains on a scale of 1-10? Do you know if there are any free clinics in your area? Was he doing any activities that are out of the ordinary for him like lifting weights, moving, running a marathon? Did he inhale something? Does he have a cough/cold? No he cannot use his girlfriend's insurance unless she has him covered. Does he have any other chronic medical problems? If he does not have a job or is low income, he can apply for Emergency Medicaid. If he is under your father's Insurance plan, the hospital can find out all that info, all they need is the name of the Ins. Plan, your brothers full name and DOB.
