Are many Americans turning to Yahoo questions for their medical advice and care due to no insurance? |
So sad a situation in the USA, so many not covered by health insurance and not receiving proper care, it's a sad place for all the sick and ill to be, so many questions on health care in yahoo questions mankes you wonder what the USA is doing so wrong? Americans have been becoming very unique patients in the past decade. The trend is becoming more popular to self-diagnose or find research and other's people's stories to back up what our doctors say. I think that is a big part of what you are seeing on Yahoo Answers. I live in Norway and am an American. I would ask questions on Yahoo Answers not because I don't have access to a doctor (Norway has free healthcare with wonderful medical facilities)... but because I am an involved American patient. :) No longer will people just take their diagnosis at face value. The world is becoming more connected, and sharing stories, ideas, encouragement, etc, is just one effect of the world getting smaller and people asking Why? and taking charge over their lives. :) Though, I will admit, I have seen questions on here that make it seem like people don't have money for healthcare. Especially dental. I have seen comments from people wanting dental advice because dentists are quite expensive. Source(s): personal observations I think people just come here for ideas about what might be going on. They are looking for confirmation of what their doctor said or looking for questions to ask their doctor about their condition. My goodness, we see enough bad comments about NHS to make me glad I'm not stuck with THAT for healthcare. True even tho i live in England so i have the NHS, i am haveing so many problems with regarding my allergies (well i think i have anaphylactic shock), also my asthma but my doctor wont do anything as in i have still not seen an allergist, how bad is that after a year of suffering which is still going on. Am not from USA, but from Canada and I try to advertise what I do to stay healthy and am here if anyone is interested. My email is rpelley5@yahoo.com or IM me at raympe6 and I will be more than happy to share it. The US seems to let politics play a big part in our lives...why can't the goverment do more negotiating with the pharma companies....etc? I bought this book "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz and it really is great for the patient who is confused about the system and does not know where to turn for their resources....and there are resources out there....why not try negotiating? It works...I recently did that after reading the book and saved half on my healthcare bill!!!! Wow! And I am in the medical field! The book is more than worth the $15 you will spend at your Barnes and Noble. |
