Cant my insurance company find out any of my medical history that i dont tell them? |
Im applying for insurance and im wondering to what extent i can lie about my past medical conditions. If you lie about your medical conditions, especially pre-existing the insurance could be null and void. The insurance company could also request your medical records and your entire medical history could be open to them. Just be honest, as your lying could come back to haunt you. It depends on what you sign. If you sign a blanket agreement that they can do research in to your medical history, and as long as they have your doctors names and your agreement, they can get to it. But if you don't sign something stating that, anything research they do and get information from is a HIPAA violation. don't lie. it could make things difficult. they might even deny the insurance. Don't. They have your permission to examine any and all medical records prescribed by law. This is all records but financial or business. You give the permission before they even consider your application. And you swear that it is full and complete to the best of your ability. If they pay claims and they find you lied, your are subject penalties for fraud. Was in human resources (Personnel) your best bet is not to lie because i worked for an insurance company and i seen a family go through that. they had life insurance and one of them died and they looked into it and was able to connect it to the sickness and it was something they lied about and the family could only get the funds paid into the insurance and it done them no good. so it is best to be honest about everything.. hope this helps. just dont like to see families go through un needed hard times... |
