How can I get a medical deductible refunded from my doctor or insurance company? |
Hi -- I paid a deductible to my doctor after an office visit. When my insurance company processed the claim, it turned out the doctor was in network, and I was only responsible for the co-payment. The doctor claims that the insurance company never took her off the network, while the insurance company claims she never sent the termination letter. I'm inclined to believe the insurance company b/c the Dr's office has been bad about returning calls and resolving this situation while the insurance company has been trying to get them to return my money. Has anyone ever dealt with this situation? What are the steps I can take to get my money back? I paid with credit card and this money is legally owed me. The doctor's office has been giving me the runaround for over a month. Thanks. maybe if u call the cc co and explain they'll help u dispute the charges, while they're in dispute u don't have to pay that transaction Source(s): my cc co helped me when a business refused to refund some $$ on a return i made. I think your insurance company has to reimburse you if you send your receipt of payment from the doctor's office and claim it to the insurance company. The insurance company will have to reimburse you and then, will have to go about collecting the difference from the doctor. You don't have to be the one to get the payment back. It is the insurance company's job. At least, it is with my insurance company. Have you already paid your credit card bill? If the fees you charged have not been paid yet you can write the credit card company and have the charges disputed and they will look into it further. I would try to have the insurance company get more forceful with the bookkeeper at the Dr.'s office but I would definately check with an attorney. There are some that will give free consultations. Maybe if the Doc received a letter from an attorney he'd take notice. If it went to court he could not only be liable for the money he owes you but attorney fees as well. |
