I've got no health insurance. Is there a place to write off medical bills I've paid on my tax return? |
If so would it be in an itimized section? Where would I find it? My son has had strept throat twice and I had a partial miscarriage procedure and had to get that taken care of . also what about for medication such as amoxicilan, or any other out of pocket expenses that were perscription drugs. Schedule A, the great American ripoff. You only get to deduct above 7.5% of adjusted gross income. Your nanny government thanks you for your support. You can write off medical expenses if you itemize. The expenses that exceed 7.5% of your AGI are deductible. Complete Schedule A to see if it will be worthwhile to go for that. Out of pocket medical expenses including doctor/dentist fees, prescription drugs, and medical mileage are deductible on Sch A, itemized deductions, they must be reduced by 7.5% of your adjusted gross income which is handled on the Sch A. See irs.gov forms and publications for the Sch A and instructions for the Schedule A. Medical expenses are the first item listed on Schedule A. You can only write off medical expenses that are in excess of 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. Maybe. Unreimbursed medical bills, including prescriptions but not over-the-counter items, are eligible medical deductions. You'd show them on schedule A. This only helps if you have enough other deductible expenses to itemize instead of using the standard deduction. And you have to subtract 7.5% of your income from your total medical bills, and can only deduct the amount that's over that. Good luck - I hope you have a better year this year. |
