If you ended up with over $17,000 in medical bills from having an emergency c-section and no insurance?

what would you do?

Not much except to pay it. If you file bankruptcy, they can then sell your debt to someone else, and you have a whole new debt. Bankruptcy does not clear the debt, it merely prevents the from collecting from you, but someone else can through a transfer. Sorry, been there, done that. $120,000 from being on life support and in a coma for six weeks with a bacteria infection of the heart.
Prolly go bankrupt.
file for bankrupsy or nickle and dime them until its paid off in several hundred years.
Negotiate with the hospital. Most hospitals will cut the price and allow for payment plans.
pay them
Set up a payment plan with the hospital. Call a local church or find help with the bill.
File for bankruptcy or move out of the country.
