Is my insurance co. obligated to pay for bariatric sugery if i have medical conditions?

No, they aren't. My insurance company has it listed very clearly as something they don't pay for under ANY circumstances. However, if you've already seen a surgeon, his/her office will probably know what your insurance company needs (for documentation) to get approval. You can try calling the insurance company and asking, but probably they will just tell you it's not covered.
Basically, even if you have other conditions they are paying for (they call them "co-morbidities) the insurance company would rather gamble that you'll move to another company before they spend $20-30K on your co-morbidities (that's what the surgery costs).

Most insurances do not cover
Bariatric sx. However if you have tried and documented other options that were not successful then you need to contact your insurance company and inform them that you want them to consider the procedure with their medical director. If the medical director agrees with you then they would authorize the procedure and they would pay a certain portion. Remember have documentation (very important). Good Luck
