Can I get my insurance company to pay for my tummy tuck as a medical necessity? |
I have lost over 140 pounds and have a lot of excess skin on my belly. It is a problem when I run, as it can hang. Most insurers will conclude this is a cosmetic procedure; since most health insurance policies exclude cosmetic procedures, it's likely your insurer will decline to pay. Review your policy or Certificate of Insurance for details; pay close attention to the Exclusions section -- you're looking for a cosmetic surgery exclusion, or perhaps also for an exclusion for procedures that are not medically necessary. There may even be a tummy tuck exclusion, so it wouldn't matter if it was medically necessary or not. Source(s): 16 + years in the insurance industry; 9 + years insurance law experience Call them. No one here knows what kind of insurance you have or what kind of medical conditions you might have. Call the insurance company. you best bet is to speak to them directly yeah, i would say call them and if you can get the doctor to say it is a necessity that would help too. Most likely not - you can solve the sag problem by wrapping some spandex fabric around your middle. I agree to an extent with Mbrcatz, sorry if I misspelled. I don't think you can get them too...it does depend on your insurance company though. It's more of a cosmetic thing to do that....it would be very hard to prove as a medical necessity. Congrats on the weight loss though....very impressive. I am having a hell of a time losing 30. nothing seems to be working for me. good luck and I hope you get the answers from your insurance company that you're looking for! |
