How secure is wi-fi for online banking? |
Should I do that only over a DSL connection or cable? Just wondering... If you have wep or some other security enabled you will likley be fine. However it could still be safer than standing inside the physical bank itself. Just remember that someone has to want your data, even if it is transmitted in clear text. The bad news is there could be someone looking at your traffic at any time, either right outside your home to even tracking the transaction around the world in a far off land. You can do a lot to make the transaction safer, but it will never be "safe". I recommend you do what you can to limit the security issues (Https://, no wireless, limit online activity, use strong passwords, etc.) and monitor your account each month. Recently, most security breaches have happened at the bank, with hackers gaining access to cardholder data, through bank errors and lack of security. |
