How safe is banking online?

How safe is banking online?

It can be safe, depends on how secure your computer and connection are. I would avoid if using wi-fi hot spots since there can be security flaws with these. This web page discusses what is needed to conduct online banking securely:

If you take the proper steps to protect yourself it is quite safe. Source(s): http://www.panamalaw.org/internet_securi...
Safe as houses...as long as you protect your password
As safe as the bank is.
online banking is very safe aslong as you follow some simple rules.

DO NOT let anybody know your login details.
your bank will never ever ever send an email asking for any sort of details attached to your online banking e.g Username, password, secret questions. anything whatsoever. do not disclose anything to anybody. even if you get a phone call asking for them still do not let them know not even bank staff as there is no need as all info is built into there security system and if you lose your password your bank should just issue you with part of a code that the system produces and the other part will be sent through the post so you can access online again
I have found it very safe. The only things i would say are that you should ignore any emails you may get saying they are from your bank but asking for your banking details, the band will NEVER do this. Also a recent news article says dont use online banking in the workplace because there have been reports of workers especially from IT departments hacking into there colleagues accounts and getting there banking details. As long as you use common sense and keep your details safe it is a much easier way to do your banking.
You need to have a really good firewall, and several anti spyware programs running plus an anti keystroke logger. Having a key logger on your pc is like having someone stand over you watching, writing down what you type then passing it on to someone else.
Comodo do a good firewall, and theres Spybot Search and Destroy and Ewido/AVG anti spyware. I'd suggest you pay for the full version and keep it running in the background.
Plus you want Spywareblaster to stop changes to your browser, and use the Immuniser in Spybot S&D to do the same job.

Plus all the advice about not giving your details to anyone, especially not via e-mail, even if it claims it is from your bank. Your bank know your number and details, they don't need to ask you via e-mail!
If you ever get an e-mail that claims it is from your bank, you can phone them to check before you do anything.

You need all these anti spyware programs;
http://www.ewido.net - AVG(Ewido) anti trojan.
http://www.safer-networking.org... - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

Plus;
http://www.lavasoft.com - Ad-Aware SE Personal anti adware

I'd also suggest you password protect your account, plus turn off Autocomplete in your browser, otherwise the next person to use it could log in as you!
