Is it possible to shop online without having to give all my bank details?

Some advice that I read about online shopping was to use only one credit card for all of your online purchases and make sure this card only has a $250 to $500 limit. You can pay it off each month if you plan on spending more. This low limit will keep theives from being able to charge too much and can be maintained fairly easy. Plus most credit card companies have a lot of theft security now.

One way is to use a third party payment system such as Paypal - so that your credit card information only reside with them. Having said that, in any online ecommerce transaction, make sure your software are updated and has the lastest antivirus software, and never do such transaction at public computers (like internet cafe).
Haven't you heard of disposable debit cards?
What type of "bank details" are they looking for?

I can't imagine anybody needing to know my account number or bank location. All they need is my credit card.

If it involves them deducting right from your bank account, that's simply crazy talk! Why would you want them to do that?

If they insist on such information, just tell them there are other stores on-line that will sell you the same stuff without that info...if they want your business they will back off.
