Where can I purchase insurance for a vacant property? |
I have bought a house and moved in and have a vacant house and my insurance company will not sell me insurance after this month so I need to find another insurance company. call an independent agent. they write for more than 1 company and can find you coverage. i have 3 i write for that will do it it is very odd that your insurance company will not sell you fire insurance. which is pretty standard on vacant or homes that you are going to rent. there is no reason that you need home owners on the homes that you own but do not live in. are you sure that your insurance co is refusing to sell you any insurance on this house or are they refusing to sell you home owners insurance on this house that you are not living in? Some insurers don't like to take on the extra risk that a vacant property incurs. However, there are plenty of insurers who write vacant properties....so just contact any property insurance agent and ask. You shouldn't have too hard of a time...but you should be prepared for sticker shock...the extra risk that comes with a vacant property carries a high price....your premium will likely be much higher than you were anticipating. The cheapest vacant property insurance is through Foremost. They are represented by independent agents. You can find one near you at www.foremostinsurance.com Lots of luck, don't forget to winterize the house! agent, 20+ years any agent should be able to write a vacant dwelling policy for you ret agent |
