What happens if a tree on my property falls and damages my neighbor's house? Will an insurance company pay? |
I have several eucalyptus trees on a slope in our back yard, with houses below us. We don't want to cut down our trees, but we also don't want a lawsuit if a tree falls and lands on a house behind us, damaging their house and/or car. What is our liability in this situation? Does our insurance company cover the damage incurred? i would check your policy to be sure Contact your insurance company and ask them. All policies are different according to state laws. You will be responsible for any damage. Keep them pruned..they grow very quickly...do not allow substantial height on a hill side, as a mud slide can carry them away. Make sure your homeowners policy covers liability on these trees. Good luck I think you are ultimately responsible if the tree fell from your property. you are responsible. for the tree falling.. in fact you are responsible to clean it up..even if it doesnt damage anything... trust me I FOUND THIS OUT THE HARD WAY ....my neighbors were jerks about it.. so i left them a good pile of chips from the chainsaw and did it at about 10 pm with some halogen lights..hehe... like everyone else has said...check your policy or contact your insurance provider and find out.... one of my neighbors straight up took a 30 y/o tree out just b/c they didnt want it to accidently to fall on our house.. talk about a huge gap when i came home from class.. haha |
