Does anyone have renters insurance? What is a good complany? |
I need renters insurance for my new house, and need to know a good copmpany, and about how much it might cost me. I checked out a couple, State Farm had a decent rate, about $160 annual, for my area, and CSAA, which was a bit more but since I have my auto ins. with them, got a discount, so I went with them List of best Insurance compnies offering different types of Insurance Check the list and find out which is best for you, http://life-insurancee.blogspot.com/... You only need renters insurance if you're renting the house. If you bought it you need home owner's insurance. Check with the company that you have your auto insurance through first, because you will usually get a discount on both by having them through the same company. If your company offers only auto, then try any of the big 4 (State Farm, Allstate, American Family, Farmers). The rate will depend on how much you need, and what the policy covers. Get the replacement cost coverage because in the event of a loss you will be given enough to replace your old stuff with brand new stuff rather than just getting the depreciated value. Generally, depending on where you live, your credit, and how much you want to buy you're probably looking at around $10-25/month. How to Buy Renters Insurance Renters insurance is a form of homeowners insurance and the same rules apply when you shop for it. Ask your friends, check the Yellow Pages or call your state insurance department. (Phone numbers and Web sites are on the inside back cover of this brochure.) The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (www.naic.org) has information to help you choose an insurer in your state. Also check consumer guides, insurance agents, insurance companies and online insurance quote services. Talk to a number of insurers to get a feeling for the type of service they give. Check the financial stability of the companies you are considering with rating companies such as A.M. Best (www.ambest.com) and Standard & Poor鈥檚 (www.standardandpoors.com/rati... and consult consumer magazines. Decide How Much Insurance You Need. Add up the cost of everything you would want to replace if it were damaged or stolen. This could also serve as the basis for an inventory that will make filing a claim easier. For an inventory, also record model numbers, dates and places of purchase. Take photographs or make a video of these items and place a copy of the inventory in safe place away form your home. Good Companies: Farmers State Farm Allstate Balboa The best advice I can give you is to speak to an agent to make sure that the renter鈥檚 policy they offer will cover all of your personal property. There is a great deal of information on renters insurance at http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?ref... This site will let you compare renter鈥檚 rates in your area. It also gives you an option to speak with insurance agents in your area, free of charge! The average renters policy costs around $5 to $8 per month and only takes a few minutes to purchase.
