Whats a good company to get renter's insurance from? How much does it cost?

I'm about to move into a new apartment with my wife, and we're thinking about purchasing renter's insurance. (An apartment in our city burned to the ground, and the tenants without it were screwed!) We have no idea who would be a good company to get it from, nor any clue of how much it costs. Can anyone direct me to a good place to get it?

You need to talk to your car insurance company. Most renters insurance policies are the same and if you get it through your car company you usually get a discount on that and your car insurance. Its what my fiance and I did. Saved us like 40 bucks a month. By the way we use State Farm.

It's about $150 a year. Go to a local, independent agent (find one in the yellow pages!) and they'll be able to get you quotes from several different companies, and help you compare and contrast coverages.
Around 100 per month...USAA Insurance, Progressive Insurance, State Farm, AllState.

I have renters insurance with a replacement value of 45,000 in coverage. This cost 200 for the year. I also have my car insurance with the same company and the discount on the car insurance more than paid for the renter's premium.
My company is state farm. In the past I have used Liberty Mutual. Both good companies no problems from my experience.

It is good to first start with an insurance company you already have a policy with to check for discounts.
Go to your current car insurance company and you will probly get a discount on your car insurance.
