What if a renter is liable for causing inadvertant damage to the property while renting a house? Is there an insurance policy one can take out to protect renter from the liability?
Check with the company where you have your auto insurance. Many times you could get a multi-line discount. From personal experience the money that I saved on my auto policy pretty much paid for the renters policy.

Your coverage will include liability coverage up to the value of the property, plus coverage for replacement value of your personal property. And it should be pretty reasonably priced--before we bought our house 5 years ago, I was paying around a hundred bucks a year for mine.
