Help with SBA loans?

I want to start my own business and I have heard that there is a division of the government that will give loans to those who want to start a small business. Where can I read more about this and what is the maximum loan amount? Must you have collateral? I am very confused, please help.

Please call and set up an appointment with your Chambers of Commerce in your town. They have classes you must take before you will even be considered to get a loan. They can help with some of the question you will have. I am doing the same thing. Actually I decided to sign up for College before I even start with the business plan writing. The bestplace to find all the information you need is sba.gov. Just like any loan they will be looking at your credit history and possibly collateral. Also before anyone will lend you money you must have a business plan. As long as the plan is feasible and you have a good management team in place, you shouldn't have any problems finding the funds. Word of warning don't give you money to people who are claiming that they can help you find government grants. Most of these grants are for specific purposes and most individuals will not qualify.
