My employer has never asked me for my social insurance number, will this cause problems?

I have worked for this employer for more than a year now, I live in Canada and my employer is deducting Fed. Tax, E.I. and C.P.P., I did receive a T4 slip for last year but instead of my social insurance number on it they were all 0's. Does anybody know what happens to the deductions then?

I would call the government and ask them about your account. When an employer deducts the montly amounts and sends them to the government, they do not list the individuals the amounts are for at that time - ie. they send in a form listing their total payroll and the total deductions they took for the month, but they do not have to list each deduction individually. However, at the end of the year they have to send a copy of your T4 to the government, attached to a form showing the totals they deducted for the year. If you send in your T4 with your taxes, the government will know if the company is not sending in your deductions, because the company would not have sent in your T4.

I would, however, call the government to ask about your account, just in case. It is kind of weird that they have not asked for your SIN.

I hope I was able to help. Source(s): I used to be a bookkeeper and have done a lot of payroll.
i don't think your employers paying your sss payments. you better inform the sss office and report the irregularities thats going on.
If your employer is withholding funds from your paycheck and doesn't have your number to credit, where is that money going? He could keep it. It could go to the right place, but not to anyone's benefit, just kind of a slush fund or...

You'd better take the number to your employer and follow through to make sure you get what's due you.
