Can i use my Social Security Number In Canada for enrolling in school until i get a social Insurance number? |
Since i don't have a social insurance number can i use my Social Security in place of it until i have one or do i just have to wait until i have a social insurance number. If you dont have a social insurance number, that means you are not a permanent resident. In order to go to school in Canada, you will need to have a student visa, this includes secondary and elementary schools as well as college. More info here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/ If the social security number is something that was issued outside of Canada, it can not be used in Canada as it is meaningless. You'll have to wait until you get your S.I.N. Why would a school need your social insurance number? Usually only your employer or a bank where you have an interest-bearing account should ask for it. No you can't A side note for you. We both have the same amount of digits in S.I.N. or U.S. Social Security. Use yours until you are issued a Canadian number but to avoid questions, our cards are in a 3 , 3, 3 sequence unlike the U.S's 2 , 4, 3 . Make sure the registrar is aware you are using your U.S. identity. Sure, go ahead. There are so many phoney SIN numbers floating around here in Canada that no one will notice anyway. |
