Is there a place to put a name and social to see if a life insurance policy exists?

A friend is sure there is a life insurance policy on her deceased sister, but she cannot find the policy.

No, there is no central database.

She'll have to go through her sister's valuable papers, and/or check book and cancelled checks, to see what payments she might have made to an insurance company.

If she doesn't have access to those, as long as she's legal executor of the estate, her bank should give her access to all the cancelled checks.

If she hasn't paid an insurance company for a policy in the past year, likely she has no life insurance. MOST people do not have life insurance in place when they die. Source(s): agent, 21+ years
