Does State Farm Insurance insure any historic (old) homes? |
Does State Farm Insurance insure any historic (old) homes? They probably have a few that are "grandfathered" in, but they aren't currently writing insurance on houses over 50 years of age. If your house is over 100 years, you're going to have a hard time insuring it. Source(s): agent, 20+ years Is your home classified as "historic" or are you just using the term to represent it's age? Historic homes must be classified as such and may have great tax advantages depending on which state you are talking about (such as tax credits for rehabilitations), but there are caveats. As for insurance, I wouldn't limit the insurance search to State Farm, just the best coverage and cost for you, which is not too difficult to put out for bid. Historic homes typically cost more because you are covering more and these items are somewhat negotiable with most insurers (see sample link below). Good luck! http://www.state.sc.us/scdah/hphistorich... http://www.insurance.com/faqs/homefaqdet... Find a local agent who writes with Chubb. The offer great coverage for older homes. I wrote a home in NJ that was built in 1890 with $1.3 million in dwelling coverage with an annual premium under $3000. Happy hunting! |
