Are there any low income health/medical insurance plans out there - state subsidized or elsewise?

I am 58 yrs old - and make under $8000 a yr- I have no insurance for health check ups or prescription drugs... Are there any govt program to assist me in affordable healthcare? Medicare /Medicaid both claim that I am not eligible.

Thanks

What about Medical? There should be a clinic in your area for low income/no income people. When I've gone through them you have to show proof and you can contribute any dollar amount or have to pay nothing at all.
Unfortunately, I think the federal poverty guideline for Medicaid eligibility is $9,800 (link below), unless you live in Hawaii or Alaska, where it is higher. You鈥檙e still too young to qualify for Medicare. I鈥檝e collected a few Web site links that might be of use to you. One is called Benefits Check-Up (link below), a Web site from the National Council on Aging that helps people 55 and over find out what government programs they are eligible for. You simply answer a few questions online and you should have a good idea of what鈥檚 out there. You might also try contacting your state insurance office or health and human services office to find out if there are any other programs you might qualify for, apart from Medicaid (link below). While you鈥檙e waiting to get assistance, you might want to visit free clinics or county health departments (links below) for help. Also, Needy Meds is a great site that has information about disease-specific programs, discount drug programs, and government programs (link below). If you still can鈥檛 find help paying for medical costs, try MostChoice.com. It鈥檚 a Web site that has information about private insurance plans and is an easy and quick way to get in touch with locally licensed health insurance agents at no cost or obligation to you.

Hope this helps,
