In the state of texas do your insurance have to be in your name? |
I bought a car i am going overseas and im leaving my car with my girl and she was going to pay the insurance and put the insurance in her name. she is considered a "permissive user" under your policy. if she doesnt reside in your h/h then she doesnt need to be added to policy for the veh to be covered under your texas auto policy unless she is specifically excluded. do not listen to these other suggestions thus far. If your insurance agent wants more money yeah i wold add her if the prem will go up..but according to insurance contract no need she is a permissive user...again only if she doesnt live in the h/h. it is a good idea to put her on your policy if your gone for an extended period of time as a temp driver to avoid complications with local authorities but thats the extent. hope this answered your question. im an insurance agent by the way.... The insurance either has to be in her name, or she has to be added as a driver to your insurance. That way it'll cover her when she's driving it If she is driving the car full time then yes the insurance must have her name on it. Some cities here in Texas are starting to tow and impound vehicles if your name is not on the insurance (Irving, Plano, Frisco, etc.) Once you come back you can easily cancel the insurance or add yourself to the insurance policy Her name has to be on the insurance for her to drive and get it inspected plus registered. No, it does not have to be in your name. |
