My mom did'nt have life insurance...she just passed away can the state we live in help pay for the funeral? |
she has 6 children all under the age of 32 who have children and cannot afford a funeral It ain't as much as you need, but you can apply at ModestNeeds.org and see if they accept you for up to a $1,000 GRANT! I'm Sorry and be strong for your family I don't know where you live, but here in Texas the county will bury people without money for a funeral. The cemetery is usually in some out of the way place and you don't get a headstone or even a marker. Could you talk to the funeral home about paying it out. Don't let them tell you that you have to have an expensive funeral. You can have her cremated for 1000 dollars or less and later when all the kids have more money, you could have a burial of the ashes. If all 6 kids could chip in 100 dollars and you gave that to the funeral home, I bet they would let you pay the rest out. At least try. And they will try to talk you out of cremation, because they want to make more money, but stick to your guns. It's not much, but might help with cremation costs. You could also contact your church, or hers, and ask for help. Usually, you can find a funeral director in town that will allow the family to set up a payment plan. The six children who should be thankful for their mother should also feel an obligation to try to pool together at least a little money. If all six could pay even just $20 per month for 6 months, they'd be able to pay back $720, which combined with the social security death benefit of around $300 gets you to about $1000 which can pay for a small, no frills cremation and burial of remains. |
