What are the state laws in IL regarding to car insurance? |
What are the state laws in IL regarding to car insurance? You are required to show "proof of financial responsibility". This translates into an insurance card indicating that you are carrying at least the minimum statutory amount of public liability and property damage coverages. If you are stopped by the police and cannot show a current insurance coverage card, you will be arrested on the spot. The minimum fine is $75 and you will receive points for a moving violation. The IL new web site is not very user-friendly, though it looks fancier. The third reference below is the statute itself. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/depart... http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/public... http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilc... Like every other state, you must carry valid liability coverage on your auto - and possibly uninsured motorist coverage as well - however you may be able to sign an exclusion form. Other coverages (comp, collision, rental, med pay - is all optional) The minimum liability limits in IL are $20K/person - $40K/accident - $15K for all property damage. These limits are per accident. ey I pulled this one for ya, so you owe me one, haha... better check on it..
