Does anyone know of affordable health insurance for college students?

Does anyone know of affordable health insurance for college students?

First, check out health plans available through your college. If that doesn鈥檛 work, several major insurance companies have developed plans aimed at the so-called 鈥測oung invincible鈥?market 鈥?people in the 20鈥檚. That鈥檚 a good thing since about a third of all recent college graduates don鈥檛 have health insurance. Two of the most prominent plans are from Blue Cross Blue Shield and UniCare. The BCBS plan is called the 鈥淭onik Health Plan鈥?and was originally developed in California, but is expanding rapidly. It features low premiums ($70-$135) and high deductibles ($1,500-$5,000). Another plan for men and women in your age group is from UniCare. Again, it started in Texas but is supposed to branch out to other parts of the country. It鈥檚 called 鈥淪ound鈥?and has features similar to the BCBS plan.

Depending on your age, you might be able to get coverage under your parent鈥檚 plan. Many states have extended the age that children can be included under their parent鈥檚 insurance policy.

You might also want to look into short-term medical insurance. It doesn鈥檛 offer the same range of benefits as longer-term insurance, but many people get these kinds of plans when they鈥檙e in-between jobs. Typically, they last from a month to six months, although you can find short-term policies that last for a year. Short-term plans usually help pay for:

鈥ospital room and board
鈥mbulatory services
鈥ntensive Care
鈥ab Exams
鈥-rays
鈥rescription medications

The best way to get health insurance information, though is from a qualified health insurance agent. Check out MostChoice.com. It鈥檚 a Web site that offers free policy descriptions and prices from health plans across the country. You can also get in touch with local area agents who should be able to answer your questions. There鈥檚 no cost and you鈥檙e not obligated to buy anything from the insurance agents, and MostChoice won鈥檛 use your personal information for any reason apart from matching you with health plans and health insurance agents in your area.

You can visit MostChoice here: http://www.mostchoice.com/health-insuran...

Hope this helps,

Would be hard to recommend one since certain plans are available to certain people. Your University must have a clinic or health center where they will have plenty of information on plans. Hopefully, something will be affordable. Good luck!
The best way to compare rates for health insurance is to use one of the top health insurance quote provider web sites online.

You want to make sure you understand the coverages offered, coverage limits, deductibles, co-pays, and exclusions for any pre-existing conditions.

I recommend the two top-rated health insurance quote providers:

1) InsureMe - they give you the five best health insurance quotes from top-rated health insurers nationwide. To Request a free, no obligation quote, Go to - http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?ref...

2) eHealthinsurance.com offers you side-by-side quote comparisons from a large network of health insurers across the country.

I hope that helps! Take care and best of luck!
Your school should offer some very cheap insurance...in addition, I was not given enough information, but your parents' insurance plan may be able to cover you cheaply...there are so many ways you can get inexpensive health insurance that people do not know about.....I just purchased the book "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz at my local Barnes and Noble after hearing her at an interview in Boston talking about some of these ways to save money in healthcare that are in her book...did you know that you can price around, or your local clinic may be able to provide you with birth control pills and a full exam for $2? I seriously recommend this book to review...it will also help you ask the right questions when you decide to purchase health insurance!!!
Short term health insurance is MADE for college students. It covers doctors, hospitals, prescriptions and you can go anywhere for coverage because there is no "network". It is best to get it from the industry leader because they have developed the best coverage at the best price. Go to http://www.wavehelp.com/short-term-medic... to read up on it. The site is easy to use and full of good information - all you will need to make a decision. You can buy on-line and have it take effect at a date in the future or as early as tomorrow. Don't wait. Get covered!

Best wishes.
