Since students can't claim unemployment benefits, why should they have to pay unemployment insurance? |
Is this just an oregon thing? Only employer's pay unemployment insurance. It is not something you pay or that's taken from your pay when you work. Students can draw unemployment under certain circumstances. You would have to have wages earned during the base period (1st 4 quarters out of the last 5) and have earned those wages through an employer that pays in unemployment taxes (work study doesn't count in AR). There are other conditions as well, you need to contact your local unemployment office, they will give you more info. on your state requirements. Good Luck. Hmm, I've never heard of that. We do not have that in Louisiana. It might be an Oregon thing. In Texas the employer pays the unemployment tax. It's the same at the federal level. |
