When does council tax come out of your account? |
For some reason I thought the council tax came out of your account (if paying by DD) for 10 months April to Jan or March to Dec. But in looking at my account today it would appear a payment has been made to the council, what if they say they are taking 10 payments but actually taking out 12 - I know I should have noticed sooner, but with all this hoo haa about getting your banding reduced I just started noticing more - could I get a rebate of the council tax from when I first started paying or just this year? Some councils give you the choice of paying 10 or 12 instalments. Just add up the payments and compare them with your council tax demand. If there's a difference, then phone the council and ask them about it. I thought it was 10 months, April through Jan, I have not accounted for Feb/Mar payments and will go check my bank now!! Maybe the system has changed this year? Nope; I haven't paid any out for Feb - give them a ring and query! 10 payments only (the 1st of each month) april till jan inclusive just make sure you have not overpaid ?? if yes you will get a refund !! Check with your council cos my direct debit runs May - February It depends whether your council takes the instalments over 12 months or 10. You can check by phoning your council and asking for the council tax office. It is also possible that if they didn't take the first payment for 2006-2007 until May last year, the February one is the last of 10. |
