What happens if the checking account you directe dyour tax refund to is closed?
I work for bank of america, if your account is closed when we do our nightly processing the computer will look to find any other open accounts you may have with us. If you do have another open account it will be redirected there the next day. If you don't have another account for it to be credited to the deposit will reject. It will be sent automatically back to the IRS and they will receive confirmation within 72 business hours. Once they get the transmition they can resend it to another account number you provide them, or they can mail you a physical check. It will just take you longer to get your refund, but eventually you will get your money. Hope this helps. The bank will reject the deposit and should send a letter to the address on the old account informing the account owner. Call the IRS at (800) 829-1954 to resolve your refund problem.
