I filed my income taxes electronically and my account hasn't been debited for the amount I owe. When will it? Depending on when you filed, it may take the IRS a few days to a few weeks to process your return. Even though you filed electronically, that return has to be processed through the IRS's computer system. And if you filed close to the deadline like a lot of people do it could take a while for yours to get through the system. Just make sure you've got the money in your account to pay when it does come. You don't want to get stuck with additional penalties and interest charges due to nonsufficient funds in the account. Did you tell your computer which day you wanted it to debit from you account. If not, it should be any day now. If you did, it should have been done the day you requested. You might try going to www.irs.gov to confirm they received your return (there was a major backlog on the turbo tax web site from last minute filers this year). Your software should have sent you an email telling you that your return was accepted, if not, I would definitely double check it got there. |
