Tax advice:Do I claim 1 or 0 on federal and state?

What does that really mean? (Which way will they keep more of my money?) I have always claimed one on fed and one on state as a single girl. Now I am married...should I have claimed zero before? Should I do it now or do I have to claim myself???? So confused...PLEASE help me!

Now that you are married, you and your husband should prepare your Forms W-4 together to make sure that sufficient tax is withheld. Use the worksheets on page 2 to calculate your total withholding exemptions. The number you come up with is the number total exemptions you should claim between you.

Most married couples need to claim married and zero on the Form W-4 if both work to have enough tax withheld when both work. If one of you has a significantly higher income than the other, the one with the higher income may well need to designate additional withholding amounts to break even at tax time. The worksheets on page 2 of Form W-4 will help you to figure this out properly.
I have always claimed 1 and 1. I don't think being married will change that. Claiming 0 will have more tax withheld from your paycheck so that when it's tax time, you get more money from the Governement (smaller paycheck, more money in April)
well it depends on if you want more money now or more money later, because really when you claim zero they take more taxes out of your checks which they only save for you with no extra like interest from a savings account would give you a percent on your dollar that you saved. and claiming one gives you more throughout the year which i believe is better because you are married and you will both get more money back for being married so one of you claim zero and the other claim one or more if you have children you can claim more . hope this helped.
