Tax advice for State of Missouri?

Missouri has said that I didn't file 2004 taxes. They gave me 60 days to prove I did or they would levy fines and penalties against me. I found my taxes - but it was too late. They said I missed the 60 day grace period and the amount was due in full. I can pay it without a problem, but My question is this: Can I provide proof after payment or is it a waste of time and I will never get anything back.

Missouri has a 3 year statute of limitations for filing and getting refunds. This means 3 years from the due date of the 2004 return which was 4/15/05 so deadline for any change by you or them is 4/15/08. So it is not a waste of time.
I had this happen to me a few years ago. But I did supply them with the forms and no penalties or interest was attached to my payment. My suggestion is call them and tell them what has happened. They will advise you the best possible way to settle your problem.

Good luck.
