Tax advice please...?

can 2 people that live together file together? like boyfriend & girlfriend ?Cincinnati Oh

Thank you

hmm I'm not sure, does Ohio recognize common law marriages? ok, found the answer....no but you can be grandfathered if you were together before October 10, 1991

i mean, you could file as married, i know a lot of people in your situation that have and gotten away with it, but you run the risk of a possible audit Source(s): http://www.ncsl.org/programs/cyf/commonl...
No. I think to file "joint" you have to actually be married.
I think you have to be legally bound to file together. But I'm not totally sure, sorry!
You have to be married to claim "married joint" or "married seperate".

The only way you could claim married by "common law" is to meet your state's requirements to be recognized as married. The IRS will recognize your marriage until they find you pretending to be single somewhere else. (Some people try to be single to the welfare office and married on a tax return.)
No. You can only file together (a "joint" return) if you are legally married as of the last day of the tax year.
You can file "Single Filing Jointly Confused".

If you file a joint return you will be MARRIED and the only way to undo that is to go to the courthouse and GET A DIVORCE.

I don't think mom& dad would be too proud.
