Tax filed wrong need some advice? |
My mother filed my taxes wrong last year and I ended up owing the irs $1,000.00. I'm a student and have a part time job. Is there any way to fix the problem? She "filed wrong" and you owe $1,000.... so you must have owed $1,000 if she "filed right". ??? If so, pay it. You don't owe $1,000 unless you underpaid to begin with. file a Form 1040X with the correct data Try filing an Amended Return. Its Form 1040-X File an ammended return (a 1040x) and contact your local IRS office to set up a payment plan if you don't have the $1000. Interest and fines continue to accrue until the amount is paid off, and trust me, you don't want to wait until your $1000 grows into a $10000 bill! I'm a professional bookkeeper refile a corrected tax return for last year. use form 1040x. put correct info on new form and file as you normally would. this year, file as you normally would. you're only filing for a correction of last years retun. that's the purpose for the 1040x. so don't use this year on the 1040x./ Are you saying that you owe the $1000 because you filed a false return and got caught? Sorry, but you can't blame your mother - didn't you look at it? You're responsible for your own return. |
